This week in Reception we have been learning how to double numbers, we have been completing our Stickman challenges during our independent learning time and doing lots of writing!
This term sees the start of our new topic – “Stickman”!
We have been busy making Stick men in our classroom, writing the names of our loved ones on leaves to stick on our family tree in the roleplay area, learning about length in our maths lessons and measuring lots of things around the classroom!
Receptio meeting Santa!
christmas Party day in reception!
This week in Reception we began our new topic based on the book ‘My Cat Likes To Hide in Boxes’! We love our new roleplay aeroplane and we enjoy writing tickets for our pets so they can board the flight. We are matching letters with their capitals, designing and building homes for our pets and rehearsing our Nativity play. Plus during the cold weather, we have been investigating the ice outdoors and expanding our vocabulary to describe it!
This week we started our new topic, based on Rod Campbell’s ‘Dear Zoo’. Here at Barlow Hall school we use Pie Corbett’s ‘Talk 4 Writing’ principles to inform our literacy teaching. On Monday we took delivery of a big box from the postman. We discussed with our friends what could be inside and had a go at writing our suggestions. We opened the package to find a monkey that we named ‘George’!
On Thursday it was French Day in school. We all dressed up in red white and blue and enjoyed learning the names of numbers in French, food-tasting and performing ‘French exercises’ with our parents and carers.
What a wonderful week!
The Reception Team 🙂
This week we went on the reading bus, ran the daily mile, had football coaching from a Manchester City football coach and learnt to recognise teen numbers!
